From the Rockies to the Last Frontier: How I Moved to Alaska and Found My Heart Behind the Lens

Hi friend — I’m Kari. I’m a wedding and senior photographer based here in wild and beautiful Alaska. I’m powered by iced coffee (even when it’s snowing), Taylor Swift’s Reputation era, and a love for bold color and even bolder love stories.

Before Alaska? I was a Colorado girl with a camera, a vision, and a love for chasing the light.

How the Southwest Shaped My Creative Style

Though Colorado was home, I was forever creatively inspired by my visits to Santa Fe. There’s just something about that southwestern palette — sun-drenched colors, texture-rich adobe walls, dramatic skies — that wove itself into how I see the world.

That influence still lives in my work: true-to-color editing, rich earthy tones, and honest storytelling in wild places.

So…Why Alaska?

I didn’t move here on a whim… okay, maybe a little bit on a whim. But I was craving a deeper connection to nature, a slower pace, and a place where creativity could grow roots. Alaska handed me all of that and more — along with moose in the yard and the occasional bear-sighting panic.

What I’ve found here is magic: couples who elope on mountaintops, seniors who want real moments over perfect poses, and families who trust me to capture the messy, beautiful stuff of everyday life.

I’m not the “say cheese and stand still” type of photographer. I’m more like your laid-back, slightly chaotic new friend who hypes you up, makes you laugh, and gets you those dreamy, real-deal photos that feel like you.

• I hike with my camera and snacks. Always snacks.
