From Kivgiq to “I Do” – Rachel & Vernon’s Joyful Grandview Inn Wedding
Some couples just radiate joy, and from the very first moment I met Rachel and Vernon, I knew their wedding would be as full of life as they are. These two are the definition of fun, love, and deep cultural connection—and their September 7, 2023 wedding at The Grandview Inn and Grill in Wasilla? It was a celebration that brought all of that and more.
Rachel and Vernon first met through friends back in 2015, and their bond grew fast—starting as friends, then turning into something deeper. Rachel says it was Vernon’s “Eskimo dancing” and his pride in their shared culture that really captured her heart. So it only made sense that when it came time to propose, Vernon did it in the most them way possible: during their village's Kivgiq celebration, surrounded by friends, family, and tradition.
Their wedding day felt like a continuation of that joy. They flew in from Utqiagvik to celebrate with a small but tight-knit group of loved ones. The setting at Grandview Inn was cozy and welcoming, perfect for their intimate crew.
Rachel made her entrance in a stunning gown from Arctic Rose Bridal Salon, walking down the aisle with her father (cue the tears 😭). Her brother Eddie officiated the ceremony, which made the whole thing feel even more special and close to the heart. Vernon and his crew looked absolutely sharp in their tuxes from D’s Tuxedoes and Formal Wear, bringing the drip for the big day.
And let’s talk about the food: a taco bar (yes, please!) catered by The Grill, and a delicious cake by Cakes by Malinda. The vibes were unmatched—dancing, laughter, and just pure good times. These two know how to throw a party, and when I say they danced the night away, I mean it. From traditional moves to grooving with friends, it was nonstop energy.
Rachel and Vernon’s love is built on the little things: dancing, fishing, stargazing, cracking jokes during scary movies, throwing down at darts and Yahtzee, and roasting each other like it’s a competitive sport—all in love, of course. Oh, and they’re not shy about winding down their way…so naturally, they wrapped up the night with a relaxed little 4/20 session, just the way they like it.
Their wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are: warm, rooted, fun, and full of love for their community and each other. It was a total honor to be there to capture it all.
